Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin | Program & Parking
The Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin is much more than a classic cinema: In the Schwerin Courtyards, the venue combines the charm of a traditional film palace with modern technology, a versatile event offering, and a location that works just as well for everyday life as it does for special evenings. Those who come here are not just looking for a movie, but a complete cinema experience with good accessibility, multiple halls, an event character, and a program that ranges from current blockbusters to sneak previews and festival and special formats. The official presentation describes the venue as a popular cinema and event location in the heart of the state capital Schwerin, with six screens, state-of-the-art projection, strong sound, and an atmosphere that explicitly focuses on comfort and variety. The connection to the Schwerin Courtyards also makes the visit practical: parking garage, direct access, and short distances are part of the concept here. ([schweriner-hoefe.de](https://schweriner-hoefe.de/erleben/filmpalast-capitol-schwerin/))
Program, Sneak Preview, and Special Events
The program is one of the biggest reasons why the Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin is in such high demand regularly. The official cinema description mentions a weekly changing offering that includes major blockbusters, selected art film programs, and numerous special formats. This mix shapes the search queries around program, premieres, events, and your cinema: people are not only looking for the next cinema date but also for special evenings with added value. This includes fixed formats such as Ladies Preview, Action Preview, Family Premiere, film discussions, star visits, after-work offers, senior cinema, and sneak previews. This is particularly evident in the sneak preview format: every Monday at 8:15 PM, a film surprise runs before its nationwide release, tickets cost 6.90 euros, and the title remains a secret until the film begins. This makes the Filmpalast a venue that not only shows films but also consciously stages expectation, curiosity, and surprise. ([schweriner-hoefe.de](https://schweriner-hoefe.de/erleben/filmpalast-capitol-schwerin/))
Additionally, the strength as an event stage is noteworthy. The official presentation mentions live broadcasts of concerts and events from around the world, made possible by satellite systems and fiber optic connections. Notable examples include major opera houses, the Metropolitan Opera from New York, and the Bolshoi Ballet, thus formats that extend the cinema's role as a cultural venue beyond classic films. Nationwide action days and special formats also take place here, such as the cinema festival with discounted tickets and additional activities around film and cinema. For SEO planning, this breadth is essential: those searching for programs are not only looking for showtimes but for an overarching experience of cinema, live events, festivals, and community formats. The Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin thus fulfills several search intentions simultaneously: current cinema, special events, and a reliable place for regular returns. ([schweriner-hoefe.de](https://schweriner-hoefe.de/erleben/filmpalast-capitol-schwerin/))
It is also exciting how strongly the location in Schwerin itself is connected to the program. The venue is part of a vibrant event landscape where cultural series, film discussions, and thematic specials have a fixed place. The cinema's pages show that it does not stop at individual premieres but maintains a continuous dramaturgy of new films, special series, and seasonal highlights. This creates a clear identity: those who visit the Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin do not receive an anonymous multiplex experience but a curated offering with local relevance and recognizable formats. This is precisely why search terms like program, premiere, sneak preview, and events are so closely linked here. They describe the same expectation: quickly check what’s on and simultaneously discover something special. ([schweriner-hoefe.de](https://schweriner-hoefe.de/erleben/filmpalast-capitol-schwerin/))
Opening Hours, Tickets, and Prices at Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin
When it comes to practical questions, opening hours and ticket prices are at the top. The Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin publishes its own page with admission prices and opening hours. Regularly, ticket prices for adults range from 11.50 euros to 19.00 euros, for students, seniors, and pupils from 10.50 euros to 18.00 euros, and children up to eleven years pay between 7.00 euros and 14.00 euros depending on the seating category. For families, a family price applies on Sundays and public holidays, and there are additional charges for 3D, D-BOX, and occasionally film-related special surcharges. Particularly relevant for seekers is the online bookable price advantage: those who buy their tickets online can save up to 1.00 euro per ticket compared to the box office price. This is not just a price detail but a clear incentive for digital booking. ([capitol.filmpalast.de](https://capitol.filmpalast.de/oeffnungszeiten/))
Special formats also include fixed prices for senior cinema, knitting cinema, sneak preview, and ladies preview. This shows that the Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin does not understand pricing as a one-size-fits-all model but deliberately differentiates according to occasion and target group. Cinema day on Tuesday further lowers the barrier: under the motto Thank God it’s Tuesday, all films and all seats cost 6.90 euros, children pay 5.50 euros. The venue is also pragmatically set up regarding ticket logistics. The box offices open daily 15 minutes before the first show and close 15 minutes after the last show begins. Those who book online in advance can use the tickets via barcode directly at the entrance and do not have to wait in line at the box office. For the search query opening hours, this means: the visit does not start in the hall but already with a fairly comfortable planning. ([capitol.filmpalast.de](https://capitol.filmpalast.de/oeffnungszeiten/))
Moreover, the variety of payment methods is noteworthy. At the box offices, EC cards, credit cards, and digital payment services are accepted. It is also important to note that for special events such as concert broadcasts, film nights, or premieres, different prices may apply. This is why it is always worth checking the respective event entry if you are interested in a specific date. For the search intention tickets, this is crucial: not only the price but also the specific event determines what is paid and how admission works. The official website covers this information very transparently, creating a reliable basis for visitors who want to book spontaneously or in advance. ([capitol.filmpalast.de](https://capitol.filmpalast.de/oeffnungszeiten/))
Parking and Access in the Schwerin Courtyards
At the Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin, the question of parking is one of the most important search terms, and for good reason: the location in the Schwerin Courtyards is central, urban, and highly sought after. The attached parking garage Schweriner Höfe offers 380 parking spaces, is open around the clock, and leads directly into the quarter. For the cinema visit, this is a clear advantage because the path from the car to the entrance remains short, and one does not have to search long for a spot. The official site also emphasizes the maximum entrance height of 2.00 meters as well as the direct connection to the Schwerin Courtyards and the adjacent medical center. Especially in everyday life, but also for evening shows, this is a practical argument that significantly enhances the location. Schwerin itself points out that access is conveniently possible directly into the parking garage of the Schwerin Courtyards. ([schweriner-hoefe.de](https://schweriner-hoefe.de/shoppen/parkhaus-schweriner-hoefe/))
The pricing structure of the parking garage is also transparent. During the day, from 7 AM to 8 PM, a rate of 2.00 euros applies for the first hour, 1.50 euros for each additional hour, and a daily maximum of 8.00 euros. At night, from 8 PM to 7 AM, the same hourly rates apply, with the maximum amount being 7.00 euros. This makes parking in the city center calculable, which is especially important for longer event or festival visits. The Schwerin Courtyards also describe the parking garage as a solution for the tense parking situation in Schwerin and mention the location as being in the center, close to the World Heritage site, and just a few minutes' walk to the city. For the search terms parking and access, this provides a clear answer: here, the cinema is embedded in a functional city center quarter that makes the visit uncomplicated. ([schweriner-hoefe.de](https://schweriner-hoefe.de/shoppen/parkhaus-schweriner-hoefe/))
The location in the Schwerin Courtyards is not only logistically important for the Filmpalast but also atmospherically. The quarter is understood as a feel-good place with gastronomy, shopping, and culture, and this is precisely where the added value for cinema visitors lies. Those who want to eat, stroll, or extend the evening before or after the film can do so right on site. At the same time, the location remains well anchored in the urban structure due to its central city location. The combination of parking garage, direct access, and short pathways is therefore more than just a practical extra. It is part of visitor guidance and makes the Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin a location that also functions well under high occupancy. ([cms.schwerin.de](https://cms.schwerin.de/kultur-tourismus/erlebnisse-in-schwerin/schwerin-an-einem-tag/schweriner-hoefe/index.html?utm_source=openai))
Halls, Seating, and Technical Equipment
The halls are a central quality feature of the Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin. Officially, the venue speaks of six screens equipped with laser projection technology, atmospheric surround sound, and market-new Dolby sound processors. Additionally, there are huge silver screens, with the largest being highlighted in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, as well as highly comfortable cinema high-back seats in three categories. The technical equipment is not only designed for film screenings but also for events, presentations, and live formats. This makes the difference between a normal cinema and a multifunctional event location. For those searching for seating or halls, it is especially important that the venue offers different room sizes and can thus accommodate both intimate screenings and large premieres and events. ([capitol.filmpalast.de](https://capitol.filmpalast.de/unser-kino/))
The specific capacities are also clearly documented. Cinema 6 is the small art film hall with 62 seats, the medium halls have approximately between 80 and 150 seats, and Cinema 1 has 487 seats, divided into stalls, balcony, and boxes. Additionally, the venue mentions 84 Extreme Motion Chairs and refers to 3D-capable 4K projection as well as DOLBY Atmos sound. In the service area, it is also explained that all halls are equipped with connection options for microphones, laptops, and other technical devices and that there is free internet access throughout the venue. This makes the Filmpalast interesting not only for cinema fans but also for conferences, presentations, and private events. This combination of size, comfort, and technical flexibility is one of the reasons why the location performs so strongly for the search intention halls. ([capitol.filmpalast.de](https://capitol.filmpalast.de/unser-kino/))
A special detail is the historic Capitol Hall 1. The venue describes it after renovation, together with the monument protection office, as one of the most beautiful cinema halls in Germany. This is important for the positioning of the location because it makes the Filmpalast appear not only modern but also culturally valuable. This fits with the mix of classic cinema visits, high-quality seating, and additional technologies like D-BOX. The D-BOX Motion Seats connect the film with movement; the seat follows the action with forward, backward, side, and up-and-down movements along with vibrations, the intensity can be controlled via a controller, and usage is recommended from a minimum weight of 20 kilograms, which is why the venue mentions a minimum age of 6 years. This creates an offering that appeals to both technology enthusiasts and visitors looking for a special cinema evening. ([capitol.filmpalast.de](https://capitol.filmpalast.de/unser-kino/))
Family Cinema, School Cinema, and Youth Protection
Another strong theme block around the Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin is the family and school offering. Lumis Family Cinema is aimed at families with children under twelve years and is valid on Sundays and public holidays before 6 PM for films with FSK 0 or FSK 6. The program is explicitly designed for family visits, supplemented by activities, premieres, and children's birthdays. Children up to eleven years can also collect stamps in the Lumi Club and receive a free ticket after four visits. This makes the Filmpalast a recurring leisure destination for families, not just a place for occasional film dates. For the search terms family cinema and your cinema, this is a clear advantage because the venue's appearance remains deliberately personal and close to everyday life. ([capitol.filmpalast.de](https://capitol.filmpalast.de/familienkino/))
School classes also find a suitable offering here. School screenings are possible on weekdays during the non-showing times from 9:00 AM to about 1:30 PM by individual arrangement, the minimum number is 50 students, and teachers receive free admission. The Filmpalast can not only show films from the regular program but can also procure suitable titles upon request, such as from the film canon of the Federal Agency for Civic Education or in the original language with or without subtitles. Additionally, with the digital projection systems, even DVD, HD-DVD, or Blu-ray materials can be presented, and even the class's own short films can be shown in cinema-quality. This precisely fulfills the search intention school cinema and offers significantly more than a simple class trip. ([capitol.filmpalast.de](https://capitol.filmpalast.de/schulkino/))
Youth protection is clearly regulated and important for visits with children and adolescents. Children under 6 years may only enter in the company of an adult and with FSK 0 films, children and adolescents from 6 years may only attend films suitable for their age or educational films. For children between 6 and 13 years, additional accompaniment rules apply if screenings end after 8 PM, and adolescents between 14 and 15 years need accompaniment for screenings that end after 10 PM. For FSK 16 and FSK 18, ID checks are mandatory. This transparency is not only legally important but also practically helpful, as families and schools can better plan their visits. Therefore, those searching for opening hours, family cinema, or school cinema receive not only an offering but also the appropriate framework conditions. ([capitol.filmpalast.de](https://capitol.filmpalast.de/fsk-und-jugendschutz/))
Film Art Festival MV and the Special Role of the Capitol
The Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin is not only a cinema of everyday life but also an important festival venue. The FILMKUNSTFEST Mecklenburg-Vorpommern was founded in spring 1990, traditionally takes place in the first week of May in Schwerin, and is scheduled for May 5 to 10, 2026. The official festival description emphasizes that the festival takes place in the Filmpalast Capitol with six screens and that the listed Hall 1 is considered one of the most beautiful cinema halls in Germany. With around 17,000 visitors in 2025 and about 150 feature, documentary, and short films, the festival is one of the largest public festivals in East Germany. For the search terms film art festival, May 6, May 9, May 10, or May 11, this role of the venue is therefore directly relevant, as the location forms a central festival stage every year. ([filmland-mv.de](https://www.filmland-mv.de/filmkunstfest-mv/filmfestival/profil))
The festival profile also shows how strongly the Filmpalast Capitol is integrated into the cultural identity of Schwerin. The FILMKUNSTFEST works with four competition programs in the areas of feature film, documentary film, children's and youth film, and short film. This is complemented by tributes, guest country, DEFA film history, the series Shot in MV, as well as concerts, readings, and exhibitions. This breadth fits ideally with the profile of the Capitol as a cinema and event house. Additionally, the festival points out that since 2015, the French youth film festival Cinéfête has also taken place in the Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin and that discussions, interviews, and the festival meeting point Digital Garden take place in the adjacent Schwerin Courtyards. Thus, the cinema in May becomes not only a screen but the center of an entire cultural space. ([filmland-mv.de](https://www.filmland-mv.de/filmkunstfest-mv/filmfestival/profil))
The city itself also positions the location as a special place. Schwerin describes the Schwerin Courtyards as a quarter in the heart of the state capital and mentions the cinema visit in the oldest film palace in the city as a fitting conclusion to a stay in the city center. It becomes clear: The Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin is a place with history, present, and a clear function in urban life. It is centrally located, technically modern, culturally broadly positioned, and simultaneously attractive for families, schools, festival audiences, and evening guests. This combination is what gives the location its sustainable SEO value: the most common search queries do not revolve around individual dates but around recurring needs such as program, parking, tickets, opening hours, seating, and special events. The Filmpalast Capitol Schwerin meets these needs in a way that works both practically and emotionally.

I was surprised and disappointed: the movie started 30 minutes late. Lots of advertisements (not even movie trailers) before that. We had to close the door ourselves because no worker was around. Nachos are expensive, you only get a small box that pretends to be bigger. Our cinema hall didn’t even have a proper screen, it looked like a big paper on a wall, with iron sticks holding it together. I felt this cinema only wants to make lots of money and is not focused on the customer itself.

A movie night is nice, but only in the Capitol. The conversion is successful and the comfort is speechless especially when it comes to seats. This is how cinema is fun. Staff are always very friendly, beautiful place to spend your evening in Schwerin.

It's so nice to have many halls of different sizes and a place to sit outside while you wait for the movie.
