CHRONOS & KAIROS: Time, Women, and the Creative Power of Art
At the Schleswig-Holstein-Haus Cultural Forum in Schwerin, the exhibition CHRONOS & KAIROS – Time · Women · Art presents works by female artists from GEDOK Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. From September 13 to November 22, 2026, a multifaceted dialogue emerges about time, female perspectives, and the visibility of women artists in art and culture.

The exhibition title connects two ancient concepts of time: Chronos represents measurable, progressive time, while Kairos signifies the special moment when an opportunity arises. This tension forms the conceptual resonance space for the works displayed by Ursula Bahr, Jana Beerhold, Carmen Blazejewski, Karin Camara, Monika Hellwig, Angelika Janz, Silke Krempien, Merete de Kruyf, Sophia Maeno, Traute von Mendelssohn, Margrit Rieger, Susanna Schultz, Dorothea Walz, Anke Weßling, and Dagmar Zehnel.
A Century of Commitment to Women Artists
GEDOK was founded as a community of German and Austrian women artists’ associations across all art forms. From the beginning, it has advocated for the promotion and networking of women artists in a patriarchally shaped society. The exhibition continues this art-historical and cultural-political tradition into the present and makes the importance of solidarity networks for the visibility of female art production tangible.

The viewing of the works in the Cultural Forum opens an art experience that relates different artistic attitudes to one another. For school classes and after-school groups, the Cultural Forum offers dialogical tours and creative workshops in the Atelier of Time upon request.
