Comedic Art, Sharp Punchlines, and a DJ Live Set in Schwerin
On Friday, November 13, 2026, the exhibition Life Is No Bed of Roses featuring comedic art by Mario Lars will open at the Kulturforum Schleswig-Holstein-Haus. The opening begins at 19:13 and combines the viewing of the works with a DJ live set by Martin Molter. Admission to the opening event is free.
Over 100 Images Between Everyday Satire and Exact Observation
Mario Lars casts his ironic gaze on the small traps of everyday life. In more than 100 cartoons, visitors encounter pointed scenes from relationships, the animal world, global events, and familial Christmas hustle. The drawings thrive on precise observation, clear visual dramaturgy, and a sharp pen that makes societal habits visible with comedic ease.
From Digital Cartoon to Painted Canvas
The exhibition presents not only cartoons drawn on the computer today but also works painted on canvas. This creates an intriguing dialogue between digital drawing, painting, and classic caricature. Different materials and image formats expand the aesthetic experience and draw attention to line, color, shape, and the precise construction of the punchline.
Mario Lars: Cartoonist with Schwerin Perspective
Mario Lars was born in 1964 in Hagenow and worked for a long time as the head of layout, graphics, and photography at the Schweriner Volkszeitung. Since 2014, he has been working freelance as a cartoonist. His works appear in newspapers and magazines from Vorpommern to Bavaria, in books, and as animations on television. He has received several significant caricature awards for his drawings.
Exhibition Atmosphere with Music
The opening enhances the art experience with a musical layer: Martin Molter's DJ live set creates a vibrant atmosphere between exhibition, encounter, and party. The evening thus combines cultural education, contemporary comedic art, and shared experiences in the historic Kulturforum Schleswig-Holstein-Haus.
Conclusion: An Evening for Curious Art Enthusiasts
The exhibition opening offers immediate access to caricature as an independent art form. Visitors can expect a humorous, pointed, and concurrently art-historically interesting exploration of works featuring digital cartoons, canvas pieces, and music. Those who want to see how precise visual ideas emerge from everyday observations should experience this unique art event in Schwerin live.
