Opening of the Kompass Gallery: A New Art Space for Schwerin
On October 24, 2026, the Kompass Gallery will open its doors in Goethestraße, Schwerin. As part of the Schwerin Cultural Night, a new place for contemporary art, cultural education, and public encounters is created. The opening will feature the expressive and color-intensive paintings of the Greifswald artist Felix Jess.
Expressive Painting Between Landscape and Emotion
The first exhibition is titled Second Expedition – Expanded Perspectives. In it, Felix Jess continues his exploration of the relationship between humans, landscape, and nature. His painting moves between figurative-representational depiction and abstraction. Color-intensive surfaces, tension-filled forms, and a dynamic visual language offer an immediate aesthetic experience.
Among the works presented are Memories of Kyoto, Who is Felix Krull, and Reading Worker. The pieces invite focused contemplation: perception, memory, and inner landscapes merge into visual spaces where concrete terms reach their limits.
A New Place for Art and Culture
The Kompass Gallery connects to the history of the space as the former seat of the Professional Association of Visual Artists of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Peter Scherrer aims to primarily showcase artists from the Northeast, the North, and the Baltic Sea region. At the same time, the art space considers itself thematically and geographically open.
The curation is not limited to a single medium or a fixed artistic direction. In addition to painting, graphics, sculpture, and installation, chamber music events, readings, film screenings, and lectures are planned. A small kitchen studio also serves for the production of interviews and podcasts for the cultural portal Kulturkompass-MV.de.
Art Experience During the Schwerin Cultural Night
The opening begins at 5 PM and offers an opportunity to get to know the new gallery spaces in a special exhibition atmosphere until 10 PM. Light, spatial effects, materiality, and the color tone of the paintings enter into a lively dialogue with the urban environment of Goethestraße.
The presentation of the works will be conducted by the artist and curator Susanne Gabler from Wismar. In conversation with Felix Jess and the audience, the immediate encounter with the images is combined with art historical context and cultural education.
Conclusion: Schwerin Discovers a New Cultural Meeting Point
The opening of the Kompass Gallery promises a concentrated art experience with color-intensive painting, personal encounters, and an open curatorial concept. Art enthusiasts will experience the first exhibition of Felix Jess and discover a new space for contemporary art in the Northeast. A visit enriches the aesthetic experience and sets an inspiring accent in the cultural landscape of Schwerin.
