Castle Magic for Families: On the Trail of Petermännchen
On Saturday, November 7, 2026, Schwerin Castle transforms into a mysterious adventure world for children and adults. At the 14th Family Action Day "Time for Family," families follow the traces of the legendary Petermännchen and together discover stories full of courage, magic, and curiosity.
A Family Tour Between Legends and Castle Walls
In the historical rooms of the castle, participants meet the famous castle ghost, who bears many faces in the legends: He appears as an enchanted prince, a loyal protector of the Mecklenburg ruling house, or a spirit of justice. The child-friendly tour combines history, fantasy, and shared wonder into a special learning experience.
Age-appropriate Learning Fun in a Mysterious Atmosphere
The two-hour family tour invites children to listen attentively, ask questions, and develop their own ideas. Legends and historical sites create a sensory access to culture and history. This strengthens curiosity, linguistic development, and the sense of community in the family.
Get Creative and Create Your Own Petermännchen
After the tour, the crafting activity begins. Small and large castle ghosts create their own Petermännchen and take home a personal keepsake. The creative work complements the tour in a child-friendly way and makes the contents tangible through personal creation.
Well Organized for Shared Family Time
Participation is limited. A maximum of two adults per family may participate. Pre-registration at 0385 58841571 is recommended. The organizer is the State Castles, Gardens, and Art Collections of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
The family experience connects children's laughter, historical discoveries, and creative shared time. Families can expect a varied afternoon with castle stories, learning fun, and a crafting activity. Mark the date now and meet Petermännchen live at Schwerin Castle.
