CHRONOS & KAIRO: Contemporary Women’s Art at the Schleswig-Holstein-Haus Cultural Forum Schwerin
With CHRONOS & KAIRO – Time · Women · Art, the Schleswig-Holstein-Haus Cultural Forum in Schwerin presents a thematic exhibition of the artists of GEDOK Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. From September 13 to November 22, 2026, the exhibition opens a multi-voiced view on female perspectives in art and connects painting, photography, installation, literature, and music.
Art between Chronos and Kairos
The title of the exhibition refers to two different experiences of time: Chronos stands for measurable, linear time, while Kairos denotes the special moment and the opportune time. In the curatorial arrangement, these dimensions meet as poetic, social, and personal experiences. The works explore memory, the present, change, and the question of how female artists make their own history visible.
An Exhibition by GEDOK M-V
GEDOK was founded in 1926 in Hamburg by Ida Dehmel and has been committed since its inception to the visibility and networking of women in the visual arts, music, literature, performing arts, and applied arts. The exhibition in Schwerin stands in the sign of this long-standing cultural political commitment and brings together works by Ursula Bahr, Jana Beerhold, Carmen Blazejewski, Karin Camara, Monika Hellwig, Angelika Janz, Silke Krempien, Merete de Kruyf, Sophia Maeno, Traute von Mendelssohn, Margrit Rieger, Susanna Schultz, Dorothea Walz, Anke Weßling, and Dagmar Zehnel.
Painting, Photography, Installation, and Sound
The exhibition unfolds its effect through the interplay of different media. Painting and photography encounter installations, texts, singing, and performative elements. This creates an exhibition atmosphere where visual impressions, linguistic impulses, and acoustic concepts overlap. The viewing of the works leads from concrete materials and forms to larger questions of identity, memory, female authorship, and social participation.
Cultural Education and Shared Experiences
Interactive tours and creative workshops in the Atelier der Zeit are available upon request for school classes and after-school groups. A tour of the exhibition is scheduled for October 7, 2026, at 11 AM. Additional tours will be announced during the course of the exhibition. The educational program combines aesthetic experience with cultural education and makes the exhibition accessible to young visitors.
