The Next Please: Contemporary Art between Object, Installation, and Video

The exhibition The Next Please brings together Tino Bittner, Udo Dettmann, and Thomas Sander from October 16 to November 14, 2026, at the Dezernat5_Gallery for Contemporary Art in Schwerin. The opening takes place on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at 7 PM. The dramaturg Marc Steinbach will speak at the introduction; afterward, the Dezernat5 Lounge with DNB and DJ Mad Maxx invites for discussion. The artists will be present.

Objects, Installations, and Moving Images

The three Schwerin artists work at the intersections of object art, installation, and video. Their works examine perception, movement, and the order of everyday processes. From seemingly familiar situations, disturbing visual and spatial constellations emerge, combining humor, paradox, and social observation.

Previous joint projects by Tino Bittner, Udo Dettmann, and Thomas Sander show an artistic practice that breaks down perception processes into individual phases and still images. Analog objects, digital video images, and spatial installations create shifts, optical refractions, and new perspectives on the ordinary.

An Exhibition as Aesthetic Experience

The exhibition atmosphere thrives on the interplay between material presence and moving image. Forms, surfaces, light, and spatial effects draw the eye to details often overlooked in daily life. Viewing the works thus becomes an active art experience: the audience encounters not only individual exhibits but a multifaceted perceptual space.

At the center is the question of how individual scopes for action assert themselves within societal routines. The exhibition title sounds like a request and at the same time like a laconic stage announcement. It opens a resonance space for themes such as anonymity, repetition, social processes, and the role of the individual.

Accompanying Events in the Gallery

The exhibition program expands the presentation with several dates: On October 17, the gallery participates in the Night of Knowledge. On October 23, the session The Next Please with Karsten Stotco, Tino Bittner, and other participants follows. The Culture Night Schwerin on October 24 offers another opportunity to experience the exhibition in a special atmosphere. On October 30, the film evening Little Man – What Now? based on the novel by Hans Fallada is on the agenda. The finissage on November 14 starts at 4 PM with coffee and pastries.

Opening Hours and Exhibition Visit

The Dezernat5_Gallery for Contemporary Art is open from Wednesday to Friday from 4 PM to 7 PM, as well as on Saturdays and Sundays from 2 PM to 6 PM. From November 4, visits are possible by request. The exhibition visit connects contemporary art with cultural education and invites visitors to discover the media of object, installation, and video in direct spatial context.

Conclusion: Art that Moves the Gaze

The Next Please promises a concentrated encounter with three independent positions of contemporary art. Between object, video image, and installation, an aesthetic experience emerges that shifts familiar patterns of perception and raises new questions about everyday life. Art enthusiasts should visit the exhibition live to experience spatial effects, materiality, and movement directly.
